Farm Fire Sunday, September 5, 2010
A 5 acre fire started from a
campfire that "had water poured all over it". About 3 hours
after the fire was left, high winds had rekindled the fire from embers
and spread it to the surrounding grass. A large brush pile left over
from OERB work became involved in the fire. Damage was restricted to
the grass and brush pile. There were no injuries. Always make
sure your campfires are DEAD OUT. There are 5 gallon buckets at
the farm to pour lakewater on all fires. When you start a fire,
gather a bucket of water along with your firewood. Use it in case
the fire spreads or to put it out COMPLETELY before leaving.
